- Broker: A Kafka server that stores messages, handles client requests, and manages data replication.
Kafka differs from traditional queuing systems in that it stores messages on disk even after they have been consumed. It supports high throughput, horizontal scalability, and fault tolerance through data replication. Consumer groups enable parallel and scalable message processing.
The Kafka visualization tool simulates the flow of data through a replicated Kafka topic. It helps you understand Kafka's core concepts, including partitions, brokers, and replication.
Transparent (faded) messages represent follower replicas of the original data. In Kafka, each partition has a leader, which handles reads and writes, and one or more followers, which replicate the data. These replicas are distributed across different brokers to provide fault tolerance, high availability, and durability, even in the event of a broker failure.
To keep the simulation simple, the tool uses a single Kafka topic instead of showing multiple ones. All brokers in the simulation belong to that topic. This helps you focus on how messages flow and replicate across brokers, which are key concepts in Kafka's distributed architecture.
