Senior Accounting Operations GeneralistHelsinki, Uusimaa, Finland

Apply now

We’re a global team of over 400 people, working together to push the boundaries of open-source technology and multi-cloud solutions. Our vision is to help developers, builders, and creators bring their ideas to life with speed and simplicity, by providing a cloud data platform that makes open-source databases, search, streaming, and application infrastructure easily accessible to everyone.

The Role

Do you get frustrated when a process that could take 30 seconds still takes three days because nobody has bothered to change it? Do you actually use AI tools in your accounting workflow right now, today — not theoretically, but in practice? If you want to own a core accounting function and use it as a platform to bring a team forward into a new way of working, this role is built for you.

Your Mission: Own the Numbers and Rewire How We Work

You will be the primary owner of Accounts Receivable at Aiven, and a driving force behind the broader transformation of our accounting operations. This is not a maintenance role. The accounting function at Aiven has headroom to move faster, reduce manual effort, and produce better insight — and your job is to close that gap.

You will sit inside a Finance team that has committed to being the internal proof point for AI-native operations across Aiven. That means you are not waiting for permission to experiment. You are expected to lead.

In concrete terms, this means you'll:

  • Own Accounts Receivable end to end: Manage the full AR cycle — invoicing, collections, cash application, dispute resolution, and aging reporting. You keep DSO tight, escalate proactively, and ensure the ledger reflects reality.
  • Automate before you execute: Before performing any repeatable task manually, ask whether it can be automated or AI-assisted. When the answer is yes, you build the solution or drive its implementation — in NetSuite, Zip, or tooling you bring to the table.
  • Be the transformation engine inside accounting: Our accounting team is experienced and rigorous, but still new to AI-enabled transformation. Your job is to bring them along — not by presenting slides, but by doing the work yourself and making the results undeniable. Lead by example, every week.
  • Own group accounting for AR: Together with the rest of the in-house accounting team, you will be responsible for AR across Aiven Oy and its subsidiaries, ensuring consistency and accuracy at the group level.
  • Support the general ledger: Beyond AR, you contribute to month-end close, account reconciliations, accruals, and other general accounting tasks — including supporting the statutory audit. You are a generalist who can cover ground across the function when needed.
  • Drive process documentation and standardization: Map current-state processes, identify friction, and own the redesign. Every workflow you touch should leave behind clear documentation and a lower manual burden than it had before.
  • Collaborate across Finance and the business: Work closely with FP&A, Legal, and Enterprise IT, as well as commercial and customer-facing teams, to resolve billing issues, improve the order-to-cash cycle, and feed clean data into reporting.

What We're Looking For

  • You do the work differently: You are already using AI tools in your day-to-day accounting practice. You can point to concrete examples of processes you have automated, accelerated, or simplified using technology.
  • AR depth, accounting breadth: You have a relevant degree in accounting or finance and solid hands-on experience owning an AR function, with comfort across general accounting tasks. You know when to escalate and when to just fix it.
  • Local knowledge: You have working knowledge of Finnish GAAP, Finnish tax law, and the compliance obligations that come with operating a Finnish parent company with international subsidiaries.
  • A pragmatic change agent: You do not need the room to agree with you before you move. You demonstrate the value of a new approach by delivering it, and you bring skeptics along through results rather than persuasion.
  • Systems fluency: Experience with NetSuite is strongly preferred. You understand how accounting systems, approval workflows, and data flows connect — and you know how to make them work better together.
  • High standards for data quality: You are precise. You do not let small errors accumulate. You understand that the integrity of the ledger is the foundation everything else is built on.
  • Clear communicator: You can explain a process gap, a control weakness, or an automation proposal to a non-accountant without losing them. Full professional proficiency in English is required.
