That means our strategy and operations professionals have to be bold, creative and lateral thinkers, always happy to come at issues from sideways angles. And to take ownership of what they do.

Right now, we are looking for an ESG Lead with the right blend of skills and lateral thinking approach to help us move forward.

As well as ensuring smooth day-to-day operation and project management, your role will include cross-functional collaboration and communication inside and outside of Aiven on our ESG initiatives.

About the role

The ESG Lead role is a unique opportunity to help shape and drive Aiven's sustainability action plan. Yes, an action plan. Recently, we have quietly released a new module inside our cloud data platform that will help measure and optimise carbon emissions from the use of cloud infrastructure by our clients. So in addition to building sustainability practices inside Aiven, you will be working with our clients and cloud providers to help shape a much broader sustainability agenda and help promote this new functionality at the core of our product. In this role you will collaborate closely with the product team and sales & marketing teams. You will be a key ambassador of the Aiven sustainability brand. You will report to the VP of Corporate Development and ESG. 

We require a self-starter, who is a master at stakeholder management, a team player with great written and verbal communication skills, a good relationships builder. 

Your responsibilities will be

  • Drive the work on the Environmental sustainability track to establish the pathway to minimize Aiven’s own environmental footprint, and help our customers in reaching their environmental sustainability goals though our product functionality. 
  • Lead and support Aiven in ESG disclosure planning, reporting and compliance with Global ESG frameworks and standards.
  • Empower business decision making processes and the integration of environmental and social sustainability angle into Aiven policies (e.g. travel policy), business strategy, planning, systems, and processes
  • Stay abreast of ESG trends and become a source of knowledge on key ESG standards, frameworks, and regulations, including themes related to corporate social responsibility and diversity equity and inclusion

About you:

Past experience(s)

  • 5+ years of experience in program / project management with proven results
  • Prior experience and ability to talk to results achieved in the environmental sustainability track of a broader ESG team working in a corporate environment, ideally with exposure to carbon emission calculations, frameworks and initiatives

Substance skills

  • Understanding and knowledge of ESG topics, including the connection between environmental and social sustainability
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn on emission frameworks (Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Science-Based Targets, CSRD requirements)
  • Familiarity with SaaS services, cloud services and open source is an advantage
  • Excellent oral and written command of English; additional languages are a plus

Soft skills

  • Ability to drive multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Independently motivated, solution-oriented, and strategic
  • Excellent influencing, communication and collaboration skills, ability to build cross-functional relationships

  • Forward leaning and passionate about sustainability and ESG
